12th class

we had finished last class.
last class we talk about open source.

* Outline
-what is “resistance” in digital media?
- models of politics (of resistance)
`critical art ensemble, “intervention,” “disturbance,” and “post dialectics”-virus
` open-source software and the “politics of artifacts”

*what is “resistance”?
-tactics and means to oppose the strategies of “The Prince”
`e.g., while the prince tries to “divide and conquer,” the resistance tries to overcome the imposed isolation
-countering the techniques and “technologies of power” (cf., Foucault) that impose isolation, distraction and domination through surveillance, entertainment, and force
- I think resistance is means to fight another think about my opinion.
or fight anemy.

*what is a software virus?
-virus: [from the obvious analogy with biological viruses, via SF] n. A cracker program that searches out other programs and `infects' them by embedding a copy of itself in them, so that they become {Trojan Horse}s. When these programs are executed, the embedded virus is executed too, thus propagating the `infection'. This normally happens invisibly to the user. Unlike a {worm}, a virus cannot infect other computers without assistance. It is propagated by vectors such as humans trading programs with their friends (see {SEX}). The virus may do nothing but propagate itself and then allow the program to run normally. Usually, however, after propagating silently for a while, it starts doing things like writing cute messages on the terminal or playing strange tricks with your display (some viruses include nice {display hack}s). Many nasty viruses, written by particularly perversely minded {cracker}s, do irreversible damage, like nuking all the user's files. - Hackers’ Dictionary
- I think virus is made to negative sociality person.

we had last class. I'm so amazing,because already finished our first term.
next term I'll study hard more than anyother students.
We see next friday. Thank you,sir.

10th class

This week our class learned public & privacy.
before the class I think public & privacy is simply we learn about society.

*surveillance
-close watch kept over someone or something
-Etymology: French, from surveiller to watch over, from sur- + veiller to watch, from Latin vigilare, from vigil watchful
-“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”Benjamin Franklin, 1759 Historical Review of Pennsylvania
-I think surveillance is very bad, because my privacy not keep everyone. So, I'm afraid of CCTV and stranger people.

*privacy: a definition
-1.a. the quality or state of being apart from company or observation b. SECLUSION: freedom from unauthorized intrusion- 2. archaic : a place of seclusion

* what’s missing from this picture?
-I'm sorry not capture.
-I think that picture means privacy already exposure every people, every thing.
So, We too hard to keep privacy.

* monitoring on the web
•what does your web browser reveal about you?
- hmm.. I think we introduce to stranger people, take pride in my people relationship.
•standard HTTP headers:
–From: User’s email address
–User-Agent: User’s browser software
–Referer: Page user cam from by following a link
–Authorization: User name and password
–Client-IP: Clien’t IP address
–Cookie: Server-generated ID label

* data mining tasks
•regression
•classification
•clustering
•inference of associative rules
•inference of sequential patterns

I think to develop science techonology, we invade privacy.
I hope science techonology to protect privacy.
next class we will learn authorship & ownership. I will exert oneself next class.

9th class

This week our class learn about computer games.
I like computer games. So, I expected this class.before the class I think computer games that's fun and interesting.
** Outline*prologue, game, pain station
*computer games:
-how do they work?how do they work “behind the screen”? i.e., how do they work from the perspective of an engineer? a simple example of pong
-how do they work “in front of the screen”? i.e.,how do they work for the audience or participant?Sherry Turkle on computer games and processes of identificationHenry Jenkins on computer games, gender and space.

** what’s in a game engine?
- graphics: I think graphic is to important computer games.- physics- ai -... and a lot more

** what makes a good game?
-play? or, : I think. Good game is to play toxicity.
-story? : I think. Story is interesting.

**video games as ..
.-video games as “metaphysical machines”
-...as “perfect mirrors”
-...as “drugs”
-...as “contests”
: from Sherry Turkle, “Video Games and Computer Holding Power”

this week we are learn computer games. I think. Computer games is only interesting. but computer games makecomplicated , difficult and wonderful.next class we are learned about medium as prosthesis. (Marshall Mcluhan, Norbert Wiener)I expect next class.

8th class

Our class learned about computer-aid.I don't know computer-aid to contact.
* outline for this week
-intro Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin-CSCW: computer-supported cooperative work
-Winograd and Flores : the language/action perspective of work a diagram of a conversation for action

**key point - every digital media technology has an architecture using diagrams to compare physical architectures with digital architectures.
*Winograd and Flores: model of conversation
- conversations are sequences of actions because by saying things people are understood to be doing things;
- i.e., saying = doing; e.g., taking an oath in court, saying “I do” in a wedding, etc. are not just words, but words that perform actions.
*this classroom: a language/action perspective what is our network of recurrent (repeating) conversations? --->organization
-what are our patterns of triggering and breakdown? --> linking t to t
-how do we use computers and networks to conduct this network of conversations? --> creating tools
-what new media technologies might be designed to create new conversations and connections? --> blogs …

**recall keypoint #2
- Technologies embody social, political, cultural, economic and philosophical ideas and relationships.
-I think technologies not embody everythings. because we not solve to detailed things.

** Key point
-Every digital media technology has an architecture that can be used to transform work, play and governance.
*surveillance-close watch kept over someone or something-Etymology: French, from surveiller to watch over, from sur
- + veiller to watch, from Latin vigilare, from vigil watchful

this week our class so difficult. so, ldon't understand anything.I better than anyother class. next class we are learn about computer games.I prepare next class.

7th class

Last week we had midterm exam. So we no class.This week our class study human-computer interaction.

*Outline for thiss week.-key point that has implications for the aesthetic, ethics and evaluation of human-computer interaction
-history of HCI from a tools perspective-conversational models of the interface: the intersection of AI and HCI-question for today: what problem does Weizenbaum’s ELIZA system address or solve?
-the answer of AI-the answer of Ethnomethodology

* Key point-People often interact with media technologies as though the technologies were people.
-I think computer is close to human. because people almost have computer and we use internet to search many data.(news, e-mail, blog, cafe ,etc.) Now computer is essentiality thing.

*related points: ethics-questions of ethics and “others” *should we treat technologies as people or people as technologies?
- I think to exist both two face. First technologies as people is people to toxic internet. So make internet addict.
- people as technologies is people make graphic media, movie , advertisement etc.

*history of HCI (from a tool-building perspective)
- we saw moving picture. I feel science technologies to develop extravagantly, surprise and unbelievable.

* ethnomethodology: a definition
-Ethnomethodology simply means the study of the ways in which people make sense of their social world. Ethnomethodology is a fairly recent sociological perspective, founded by the American sociologist Harold Garfinkel in the early 1960s. The main ideas behind it are set out in his book "Studies in Ethnomethodology" (1967).

this week we study human-computer interaction. I feel technology is so many develop. And When we saw moving picture,I'm amazing to science technology. Our class is interesting. I don't know many things to understand, learn. next week we study computer-aid. I don't know computer-aid. I will learn many things to this class.

6th class

We are study artificial intelligence.
we deal with two subject.
One is artificial intelligence: the founding documentthe other is a short history of artificial intelligence in software.

*Artificail intelligence :the founding document divide into who was Turing? what is he famous for?and a reading of Turing’s article “computing machinery and intelligence” in which the following is highlighted:
- Alan turing was Founder of computer science, artificial intelligence, mathematician, philosopher, codebreaker, and a gay man.
Turing develop“The new form of the problem can be described in terms of a game.

* artificial intelligence: a definition
-“... artificial intelligence [AI] is the science of making machines do things that would require intelligence [as] if done by [humans]” Marvin Minsky, 1963
-I think artificial intelligence is more conveniently for human life. But invention of artificial intelligence robot bring about lazy people.

* artificial intelligence: research areas
- Knowledge Representation, Programming Languages , Natural Language (e.g., Story) uderstanding , speech Understanding, Vision, Robotics, Machine Learning , Planning , etc.

this class I learn artificial intelligence. artificial intelligence is very useful and convenience.
but we guard to addict with aritificial intelligence machine.
class is so difficult but a little surprise. because I learn new things.

5th class

This week our class discuss about social networks.
Our class key points is two point.
one is New media technologies usually reinforce existing social networks or even work to isolate people.Other key point is (BUT) When new media technologies facilitate new social networks, they simultaneously challenge existing social, political and economic relationships.
For example Internet is help our life.
Internet through see the world news, call up the e-mail andtalk with friend through network messanger.So, Our life is so comfortable.
But,this is big problem people fall into individualism.

※outline for this week
*social networks as science
-field:social network analysis is an interdisciplinary social science, but has been of especial concern to sociologists;
- I think social networks as science is relation our life. because of our homework is through the
computer, we can use the Internet,etc.
*social networks as technology -email, newsgroups, and weblogs -in the design of the arpanet (the forerunner to the internet) email was an afterthought!
*social networks as popular culture
*social networks as art

This week class was easy for technology study.I think the contents is so excite.but I don't understand something. I work hard better than another class. next week we will learn artificial intelligence. artificial intelligence is so excite any other subject.

4th class

This week our class learn 'www'.
this class key point is 'People make media and then media make people.
'I don't understand almost.But I think 'people make media' means showingdrama , advertising, and UCC etc. and 'media make people' meanspeople addict drama , advertising etc.
So, I think 'people → media → people ' as this picture people and media circulation.

* who is tim berners-lee?- he was called father of Internet. he invent 'HTTP' after 'HTML'.

* what is HTML, the hypertext markup language? - HTML is necessary every web browser. hypertext need to computer language.so, he make a study each computerto connect. and then finally HTML is develop. and he continue studying computer file develop of effective sending system.and then he invent HTTP.

* what is 'www'?-
our class learn three answer.
answer 1: a collaboratively authored hypertext
answer 2: it is a standard
answer 3: the www is a vast, heterogeneous network of people and machines
'www' is always using to start internet. and it bend all of the world.

This week I enter the class. but I don't know many things. class is so difficult. I'm so sad. I effort so many way. next class I prepare more perfectly.

3rd class Summary

This week our class go forward only Friday.
The class key points is ' When a medium is new, it is often used to simulate old media.
I think new media is descended techonology of old media.Present science techonology made rapid stridespast times.
What does "digital media" mean?
-I think "digital media" is made through the computer program(illustrator, C++program , Photo shop ,etc.) and creativeidea.

*Hpertext: One way that digital media has been understood is
as new forms of writing, reading and thinking.

*
engelbart:CV ⇒Great computer work we saw nike advertised our class.
* Computing of the 1960s: use GPU.
the 1960's computer faults is so hard to install own, and slow.
*
engelbart's 1968 nls demo: mouse, windows..
* engelbart: stated problem
- augmenting human intellect= better & faster omprehension
+ better & faster & more solutions to problem
* engelbart : economics -short term =engelbart's framework.⇒system difficult to understand.
-long term = engelbart >> xerox parc >> apple
* engelbart : The man/machine dichotomy - H-LAM/T system: Human using Language, Artifacts, Methodology, in which he is Trained* engelbart: what is reading? reading as rendering and restructuring: “...after a few passes through a reference, we very rarely go back to it in its original form. It sits in the archive like an orange rind with most of the real juice squeezed out.” But I think reading is see and speak of book, data, letter, etc.

* engelbart: what is writing?writing as thought/symbol (re)structuring: see, for instance, p. 101: “It became apparent that the final issuance from my work, the memo itself, would represent but one facet of a complex symbol structure that would grow as the work progressed
I think writing is to write something on note.

3rd My class so hard. English class is hard and no understand many thing.
but I'm student. I'll do my best. no cheating and no sleep.
engelbart has so smarter as Einstein. engelbart is another magnifition inventor. I think. I'll have creative ideas and challenging own idea with excellen growht potential. I understand just a little. but I'm progressive endless.
Next class I progress one step.

2008년 3월 15일 토요일

second week class.

This week I heard my class so hard.we discuss many things.One class is our technologies connect or separate people, social, political , and anyplace.We talk another technologies. We apart from the present due to development of technology.but we don't know present as we talk.but I think that we under the imfluence of development of technology.maybe we apart from the present , we are plinged into panic and horor.because life is easy from techonology.The other class talk about Vennevar bush.we read "as we may think" and answer the question.Vennevar bush was made of memex. but not made.Because of spend many time and much money.but his think is given many scientists to cultureshock.Q.3 what is creative thought?.-I think creative thoght is impression of people, andcreatine think to comfortion.
Finally our class is English. So I this class is very hard and l realize my level . I determine to study hard. I have just a little english knowledge but I best myself.
sorry.
